Doe directives program

Department of Energy Office of Science is the lead federal agency supporting fundamental scientific research for energy and the Nation's largest supporter of basic research in the physical sciences.

The Office of Science portfolio has two principal thrusts: direct support of scientific research and direct support of the development, construction, and operation of unique, open-access scientific user facilities. ARPA-E awardees are unique because they are developing entirely new ways to generate, store, and use energy.

Created in , EM has the responsibility for completing the cleanup of this Cold War legacy and managing the remaining nuclear materials. The Office of Indian Energy Policy and Programs is authorized to fund and implement a variety of programmatic activities that assist American Indian Tribes and Alaska Native villages with energy development, capacity building, energy cost reduction, and electrification of Indian lands and homes.

This legacy includes radioactive and chemical waste, environmental contamination, and hazardous material at over sites across the country. The Department has taken major steps toward fulfilling our commitments to clean up this environmental legacy by successfully implementing an accelerated environmental remediation program.

For the first time, the Department is faced with larger scale closings of a series of entire facilities. January 6, , Board letter revising the annual reporting requirement for DOE to annually provide a report and briefing for the Nuclear Criticality Safety Program. December 2, , Board letter establishing August 12, , as the due date for the first of the annual reporting requirement deliverables pertaining to Savannah River Site Building F Safety. December 2, , Board letter extending the due date to January 31, , for DOE to provide the written report concerning DOE's plan for safely managing nuclear waste materials containing mixtures of nitric acid or nitrate salts with polysaccharides, in response to the Board's letter dated September 8, Chronological Listing: - - Open Board Recommendations: This Guide provides uniform guidance and best practices that describe the methods and procedures that could be used in all programs and projects at DOE for preparing cost estimates.

Office of Project Management Directives. Supersedes Chg 5 MinChg , dated The suggested DOE tailored process uses a systems engineering methodology that integrates requirements analysis based on mission need, identification and analysis of alternatives, risk identification and analysis, and concept exploration in order to evolve a cost effective, preferred alternative to meet a mission need.

The best practices in this guide come from recent lessons learned from nuclear construction projects. Projects that follow this non-mandatory guidance will have a thorough, carefully planned process for confirming that nuclear facilities conform to design requirements thus increasing the likelihood that they will perform as intended following the introduction of radioactive materials.

DOE O The Order provides DOE and NNSA with program and project management direction for the acquisition of capital assets with the goal of delivering projects within the original performance baseline PB , cost and schedule, and fully capable of meeting mission performance, safeguards and security, and environmental, safety, and health requirements unless impacted by a directed change.

The guide provides nonmandatory approaches for implementing the requirements of DOE O
